Clean Marble Countertops Stains

Acidic and abrasive cleansers are a big no no for marble counters because they can scratch and stain the surface. But while it is a durable material cleaning it can be a little tricky if you don t use the right products. Wipe sudsy water on the counter with a soft cloth or sponge. A secret in knowing how to clean marble countertops.

Water stains can be easily removed from marble. Mild soap and hot water will do just fine. If not using marble cleaner mix a squirt of gentle non abrasive dish soap with warm water in a spray bottle and spray the counter generously. It s easiest to clean the hard water stains and or soap scum if you spray on and let sit for 5 10 minutes and then scrub with a soft bristle brush or nylon pad.

Repeat the process until completely clean. For most organic food stains the marble institute recommends cleaning with a solution of 12 hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of ammonia. This will remove dirt but won t heal any etching or stains. Scrub gently and wipe soapy solution off with a clean.

You don t need specialty cleaners for marble. But first you should remove any large crusty hard water build up using a plastic scraper to get the bulk of it off. Don t use abrasive cleaner or pads either because marble can be scratched.
