Have a good sprayer that isn t too hard to trigger so your hand doesn t get tired. Add 1 cup of liquid dish soap per 5 gallons of water. You can disassemble your filter and use a garden hose to clean off the de and rinse the filter housing. Always wear rubber gloves and eye protection while working with muriatic acid. The first step in cleaning your de is to backwash. Place the pool filter valve in the backwash position then start your pool pump. Cleaning your de filter involves three basic steps. As you spray off your de filters the run off needs to go somewhere.

Backwashing will clear out all the dirt and debris inside your de filter. When the water coming out of your discharge hose is clear shut off the pump and return the valve to its normal position.
