The heater core is similar to a radiator and is a part of the vehicle s coolant system. A clogged heater core will prevent the coolant from passing through it limiting the amount of heat that can be transferred. I am wondering if i can use some clr cleaner to help flush out any residue stuck in the heater core. Radiator flush which is an acid much like clr but which has been tested fairly well in cooling systems.

I attached the end of the garden hose back to the inlet side and i let the clr do its thing for about 30 mins. Hot coolant that has passed through other parts of the engine is run through the heater core as air is forced past it and into the cabin of the vehicle to heat it. Remove heater core inlet hose. And i plugged the bottom radiator hose inlet then i filled the entire radiator with straight clr topped it off with vinegar. And let it sit for a few hours. It is the factory aluminum heater core and it appears to have zero issues no leak stains no bulging no corrosion evident of any kind. I pulled the heater core and found it to look very good.

Flushing the heater core can remove these clogs but if it fails to work you may need to have your heater core replaced.
